JOIE VEJJAJIVA INTERVIEW Here is a Short Q+A with Joie Vejjajiva who played Hips Niece "Cha" in the Man with the Golden Gun.. I asked her a few things about her work on the Film, I didn't know where to put this, but thought as I had a few Pics signed by her, this would be the best place....enjoy.
Q: Joie, How did you get the role in the Man with the Golden Gun? were you a Karate student or even a Black belt at something?? or were you an actress and learnt the fighting for the film??
A: How I came to be on the Bond film was that while in school a friend of mine told me that the Bond Production were looking for an 18 year old girl with martial arts experience. I was 15 and was a second dan black belt in Tae Kwon Do. I wrote in and got to go and meet Roger Moore and Derek Cracknell, the director at their office which was at the Narai Hotel in Bangkok. My birthday was close to Derek and Roger which were in October so they jokingly said that people who were born in October are good people, so they sent me off to where they were filming in the south of Thailand for a fight with Les Crawford who was the stuntman for the film. As I remembered correctly there were about 800 people applied and I got it. The other girl was from HongKong and she was almost ten years older than I was. They were supposed to dress us in hotpants and something sexy but because I was only 15 they decided to make it funny and put us in school uniforms.
Q: I read somewhere that in the Scene where you and the other Girl (Hips other Niece) were in the back of the Car, you just repeated the same line over and over in Thai?
A: Yes the line in the car was totally a joke. I was saying something in Thai which was repetitive because they said say anything. And the other girl was speaking Chinese. When I watch it, which is very rare, it is so embarrasing. But very funny indeed. I had not done any acting before. Anyway my brother was in the movie too as one of the karate guy and so many of my friends. We spent about three months practicing at the YWCA in Bangkok. It was fun.
Q: Did you do any more Films after TMWTGG?
A: I did another movie afterwards which was a Japanese/Thai movie about two interpol girls. It was called the Beautiful Killers. After that I was not interested in acting at all. Got some offers but wasnt my calling. Ended up working as a teacher.
Q: How long did you spend Filming TMWTGG
A: I work three about three months on TMWTGG. We have to get to the YWCA every morning early to practice with the 7 stuntman from Hongkong. It was great. The actual filming I think took around two weeks. Not only my part but the part at the Ancient city in Thailand. My brother was in it too as one of the guy sitting around in a karate costume. He now lives in the USA. Other friends are the karate guys. I did TaeKwondo at that time was a second dan black belt and also Karate second dan black belt. So I know everyone there. The guy who I threw the water melon on is now a big famous Thai boxing promotor who has a Thai boxing gym in Las Vegas USA.. you can see him go to google and type in Master Toddy. I dont really keep in contact with anyone (except my brother, of course)
